But “selling out” has proven to be harder than they expected, often leading to compromises they are not ready to make. Using the somber moniker of Grieve, a new record store on Jalan Fatmawati in South Jakarta is quickly establishing itself as the go-to place for rare, underground records of the dark kind.
Opened to the public late last year, the store mostly specializes in records and merchandise from the heavy rock genre, namely heavy metal, doom, sludge, thrash metal, stoner rock, black metal and its numerous varieties.
Name your music and clothing store Lawless, and you are bound to get heads turning. The new independently owned store located in Kemang, South Jakarta, is eager to offer its customers something more than a typical distro: a store primarily focused on selling fashion items by local, independent lines.
Sigmund Freud is taking over the local music scene in a big way — though not in a manner the psychology icon would have ever expected. Jakarta-based rock band Sigmun may owe its name to the thinker, but nothing in its classic-rock-infused catalogue would be considered cerebral by any means.
Owing more than a small debt to rock elders like Led Zeppelin and Blue Oyster Cult, the band’s instrumental histrionics harken back to the days when music “gods” such as Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Syd Barrett ruled the music universe. Bandung-based artist Rushhead is a figurine creator and illustrator best known through his designer toy artist moniker Arkiv, and his well-known character Arkiv Instant, an alien-looking robotic bear, who was first produced in 2007.
In 2001, Rushhead discovered designer toys and started collecting them. But he eventually purged his collection and decided to design his own toys, giving birth to Arkiv Instant in 2007, which was reproduced by Shanghai Based Toy Company, ADFUNTURE last year.

Hope and Dreams, merupakan sebuah album kompilasi band-band post rock di Indonesia. Album yang berisikan 12 track ini bisa dibilang merupakan salah satu sajian sehat untuk dinikmati di awal tahun 2012 ini.

While several major Indonesian musicians are busy planning world domination and devising schemes to “go international,” some lesser-known artists are actually out there doing it.
Musicians whose work doesn’t fit the local commercial market are often unappreciated in their own country, but can find welcoming arms in foreign lands. Head-spinning music, it seems, has more of a chance to cross borders than its pop-oriented brethren.
Luky Annash comes from the same family that bred Eka and Rully Annash of Brandals fame. The youngest of the family, however, is not content with following in his older brothers’ footsteps in rock ’n’ roll. His debut solo album, “180°,” contains passionate songs that mix the soulful abrasiveness of rock and the tenderness of female singer-songwriters such as Tori Amos. We speak to him about his childhood musical memories and his much-hyped live performances.
